What to Eat in Egypt

Premium Dining on Every Tour

Egyptian food doesn’t get the hype it deserves. From simple 'ful' side dishes at breakfast to delicacies like stuffed pigeon and kofta balls, Egypt cuisine is a mix of spicy, complex flavors made from humble, homestyle recipes.

Ful medames, often referred to as simply ‘ful’, is a tasty breakfast staple. Stewed and seasoned fava beans pair well with any morning dish and always come with soft, chewy Egyptian bread.

Be warned: Koshari, Egypt’s national dish, is as filling as it is addicting. This street food made of fried rice, pasta, lentils, vermicelli, and tomato sauce is a one-and-done lunch.

A sip of warm, spicy chickpea soup might not sound immediately refreshing, but you'll change your mind once you've tried halabessa in Egypt. This flavorful drink will surprise and delight you with every gulp.

Learn More About Egypt

Did You Know?

There are few wild Nile crocodiles in Egypt.

The Nile crocodile once roamed Upper and Lower Egypt, swimming down the Nile River as revered animals in Ancient Egypt. The constant flooding and drought of the river led to the creation of the Aswan High Dam in the 1960s. This construction pushed all of the crocodile nests to Upper Egypt, south of Aswan, Luxor, and Cairo. If your trip to Egypt includes visits to Nubian villages, you might see living crocs kept as pets.
